    Default Eulogy

I just watch President Obama give the eulogy for the Reverend Clementa Pinckney on CNN. I have always taken any speech by a politician with more than a grain of salt. This is the one time where I did not. He delivered a powerful eulogy, sermon, statement of fact and reality in a way no one expected. Yes, part political, but the part that wasn't was a man who understands the meaning and power of words, and relying on his church upbringing, delivered a soul searching, audience responding, standing ovation, so well paced that you could not but be caught up in it and respond with your amens. And he ended it with him bringing the congregation to join him in singing Amazing Grace. This was a moment in history.

I have not watched this speech but have a hard time believing that he wrote it. From what I have seen if he is well prepared he is a very good speaker. Impromptu he sucks.

Using a terrible tragedy to further an agenda, as usual. Divisive, IMO. Got the teleprompter going on.... Unsubscibed~!

He probably didn't write all of it, but I don't think we know if he wasn't involved in writing it and just read a piece of paper somebody gave him.

Oratorically he certainly isn't Fidel Castro, but the reports have always been that he's been far more involved in preparing his speeches than he has to be, or that most of his predecessors have been.

The audience seemed to love it, though, and I think that's far more important than what the rest of us who have no relationship to that community can say.

It's still disappointing to see that even a well written and well received eulogy can be used to express one's dislike for a particular politician. I hope you never get to experience this kind of treatment at a funeral that matters to you.
