I gave up land line and TV a few years back. My cell phone provider is verizon, but I kept my DSL with AT&T. Eventually they said that the DSL was being phased out and U-Verse was the only game in town. I did switch to that and it has been as good as the DSL was. It is a different modem, and I've been told that it is still really DSL with a new suit of clothes. Anyway, it has been working for me for over a year and if you tell them you are leaving AT&T they will be desperate for you to keep the internet service even if you don't keep anything else.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I was forcibly switched from DSL/landline to uVerse a few years ago when they started decommissioning copper wires. The uVerse internet service was much faster (about 5x) and more reliable than DSL (I never got their TV service so I can't opine on that). It also wound up being a little cheaper.
The downside is the 60-70 emails, phone calls and letters they hit you with every single day for the first six months to try to get you to subscribe to every single thing they offer. Their marketing is abusive. Ignore it and it eventually dies down to a couple of pathetic junk mailings a week.

I really like my Uverse too. The Internet and wifi work great, and the picture quality on the TV is much better. If you don't want all the cable channels, you could just get the minimum local package and add an Netflix subscription for when you want to watch a movie...
Smarter than I look or, not as dumb as I look. Whichever you prefer.
