Thanked: 3228Bears - That time of year again
After spotting a black bear at the Regional Hospital last night we found this news story this morning Bear in tree on Maplewood - Tbnewswatch.com Thunder Bay News . That is only a couple of blocks away. As it happens I just finished raking up my apple in the front to be put out for garbage pick up tomorrow. Good thing black bears are more of nuisance than a threat normally. Gotta love nature.

We had one right out the living room window the other night..
Security lights came on, and the wife scoots off the couch saying "Ummmmm yeah that is a Bear outside the window"
Went out and scared he off, pretty good sized Blackie, found where he has been tearing up the old stumps on the back 5 acres and eating grubs stripping the wild berry bushes too
BTW it is true they do poop in the woods everywhere
We get quite a few Blackies in the area,,, been a few years since we have had Grizzlies come through

Thanked: 3228Yea, black/brown/cinnamon bears are sure different from grizzlies and respond to loud noises differently too.
The black bears are in our city of 100,000 pop not in a rural area. The one in the report was not all that far from a downtown area and the one at the regional hospital is in an area that has the university across the road as well as a golf course. Lots of room for a surprise.
I'd prefer viewing them in the wild not the city.

Thanked: 13247Some fun pics I just went and snapped just back of the house, we have about 5 acres back there we haven't really decided what to do with so it is pretty wild back there still
It has been a little rainy here so I figured I could find some prints..
Didn't take too long
My big ole size 11 for reference
These are some recent stumps he has been "grubbing" on
Scat all over but I figured I would save ya all the details of that
I hope he keeps tearing up the old stumps back there, will save me a ton of time when we decide to open that area up
Fall and Spring is always an interesting time up here, everything gets way more active..
