I've seen letters wanting you to 'verify' various things, but not one where they actually ask for COPIES of your license and credit card.

Well, that are playing the odds. If 1 person responds to the email, they're still profiting.
I had a relative that sent some money (fortunately not a large amount) to some scammer that sent her a letter to her house . She was in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease and still checking her own mail at the time. Unfortunately, I'm sure she wasn't the first senior to be taken advantage of like this.

Needless to say, when I advertise and mainly on Craigslist I put a disclaimer for the scammers to not waste my time nor theirs because I do deals in person in cash at my local PD! The legits show up but the would be Jackwagons always quit corresponding.
Had to look up the definition of Jackwagon. It seems to have several meanings. Personally, I like any word that has 'jack' as a part of it.
"Another thought is that a jack wagon was the chow wagon in a wagon train or cattle drive and brought up the rear of the procession. Thus positioned, it was subject to all the dust and debris of the stuff ahead of it. And so, it came to be a slang phrase implying that someone was dumb enough to be riding in the jack wagon."

You mean they were actually at your place of work or you were corresponding with them at work? How were you playing them for 6 months?

The jack wagon theory is interesting, though probably not true as I understand that the chuck wagon generally went ahead of the rest of the train or drive so as to have the fires going and coffee ready for them when they arrive at the camp.
