Dangerous Weather/Natural Disasters in the U.S. of A.
I don't know how these subjects get fixed in my brain but lately I've been thinking about how the U.S. stacks up in terms of dangerous weather and natural disasters. Let's see, we have earthquakes in the West/Northwest, tornadoes basically from the midwest to the east coast, hurricanes and high temperatures on the southern and eastern coasts, terrible snow and cold conditions in much of the country during the winter months ---anything else? Anyway for anyone who is more traveled than I or who lives in another country, am I seeing this right -----does the U.S. have more than its fair share of dangerous weather and natural disasters?

Hey Justin,
I suspect, but I could be wrong, that what we receive in terms of natural disasters is on par and possibly not quite as bad as the rest of the world!
I think because we are in the middle of it, dealing with what we receive yearly that we don't always see past our own circumstances!
I hope I made sense

Thanked: 1587Any active volcanos in the US? - is Yellowstone (I keep wanting to call it Jellystone...) a volcanic-type place?
What about tsunamis?
We get cyclones, bush fires, I think the occasional dust storm. Storm season in Brisbane can get a bit hairy at times - roofs blown off etc. In Darwin we went through a cyclone (but a small one) when we lived there. Went to a friends place and had a cyclone party
The US and the north american continent are big masses of land - but I do reckon you get pretty sever weather. I'd love to get a look at a twister in the flesh one day.

Some will blame the greenhouse effect, others might think it is Allah's punishment for the U.S. role in the Middle East..
Who knows?

Lived in Florida and Virginia and hurricanes seem to do their share of damage here as well. Those winds were incredible!

Yeah ---- I'm not trying to start a thread that breaks down into another global warming thread ---- I'm just trying to get a feel for world weather while letting members from other countries pipe in
Thanks James for the info: Do we have any active volcanoes? Maybe some in the Northwest --- Mt. St. Helens? Of course I'm just considering the lower 48 --- Alaska and Hawaii are their own animals -----I think Allaska is terribly seismic and volcanic.
Clyclone parties? The coastal people around here have hurricane parties ---- some ill-fated.
I believe that tornado that just wiped out that city in Kansas (?) was 1.7 miles wide and a class 5 (200+ mph) winds ---unbelievable!!
