Original election campaign
You guys won't believe this.
http://www.nee-antwerpen.be/index-eng.htm
NEE (NO in English) is a party who came up during the previous city elections.
To understand this, you have to know that Belgium has a rather large right-wing extremist party.
This is in large part due to the fact that they get the 'protest' vote from people who don't agree with the current state of affairs. In Belgium, you HAVE to turn up on voting day, whether you vote or not. So the people who don't agree or hate politicians vote for the extremists to punish the goverment
NEE was founded to try and convince those voters to vote for them, rather than for the extremists. They have only 1 agenda item: to vote no to any proposition.
During the last city elections, they actually got a number of votes, but not enough to get chosen or anything.
Still, the right wing leaders were sufficiently ruffled by the possibility that they could lose the protest votes.
This is why NEE is going national, to try and kick the legs from under the right wing extremists. Not that I give them much chance, but any vote that does not go to extreme right is a good vote.
I'd feel the same way about extreme left by the way. It's just that they are not much of a problem anymore. a dozen years ago they rode on a wave of popularity, thanks to a dioxine poisoning of the foodchain, right before the national elections.
It changed the whole playing field, they got elected, they fucked up bigtime because -hey, once you get elected, people expect you to actually DO stuff- they made a foobar of their responsibilities.
Still, I think this candidate might get a significant amount of votes, if only because she is a HOT woman, posing naked on a billboard.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 1587Bruno, there's something wrong with that link - I've pressed the button several times but nothing happens....
That party reminds me of a movie I once saw - I think it had Richard Prior in it, but I could be wrong. Brewsters Millions? Anyway, the guy ran a "don't vote for any party" campaign and I think ended up in danger of being elected.

Actually, Bruno, I'm so used to getting screwed by politicians, that this seemed fairly un-remarkable.....although it is fairly refreshing to see one that admits to it right out.
Seriously.....I'm sure she'll keep abreast of the political situation, and won't roll over for every controversial issue. I'm assuming that she has SOME legal background, and, as such, is quite familiar with all the items contained in a set of briefs. It's not unusual for American senators and representatives to go 'around -the-world', but I'm certain that she knows some cheaper shortcuts. My only caution to you and our Belgian friends would be.......
......we have a Bush in politics, too and, well, it just didn't work out that well over here....I'd have a hard time recommending it! Good luck!
