Thanked: 1587I realise that's probably just standard footage and not actually the Challenger, but makes you think about bird strikes.
I analysed some NASA data a while back to do with a few things space shuttle related, and one of them was temperature (ambient) versus fuel cell O-ring failure (which I believe was one of the factors leading to the Challenger disaster) . I cannot remember now the exact details but it was something like for every degree fahrenheit cooler there was an 8-fold increase in the chance of O-ring failure. Or something like that.
Anyway, horrible moment. I can still remember it like it was yesterday.
