Never tried ice fishing. My understanding is that you are supposed to place frozen peas around the opening in the ice. Then when a fish comes up to take a pea, you kick 'em in the ice hole... or something like that.

Ice fishing is my favorite form of fishing although I admit drinking beer by a fire on the bank of a river in springtime comes close......

Spearing is my favorite type of ice fishing. Much like deer hunting with a bow. Sitting still for a very long time followed by a rush of adrenaline.

The biggest lake I have Ice fished on is Lake Superior. Drilling 2, 10 inch holes 2 feet apart on a lake of 31,700 square miles and hoping a fish or two swims under you and then wants your bait does seem a little silly.

We have had the worst winter for ice fishing ,that I can remember. They had to reschedule the ice fishing derby due to open water on the big lakes...El Nineo screwed up ice fishing for us this year...ice out will probably set some records...but that means we don't have to wait 3 weeks before the ice goes out. April 1st is opening day for Salmon, and most years,it's still has 24 inches of ice...not this year !!!
