My goal is to be able to do a nice holster for my Colt 1911 by next year.
By next year? looks like you could bang one out now... Stellar leather working!
Thanks, but each night I see the photos of guys who work on saddles & the detail they have in their work is very humbling.
Well, you only get better with practice. Maybe make a dozen holsters for the 1911?
A seven day set anyway!
Oh Yeah !!!!
The color is very Middle Earth.... I think Bilbo or Frodo could make use of it.
Well I just got back from helping my oldest and best friend construct several important items for his wedding this last Saturday. This is one that was basically 'mine', my friend has recently retired as a mechanical engineer and he designed the 'mile post'.
The first problem was that he wanted a pole 2" in diameter and 8' long however he could only find two 4' long pieces so I marked center and then drilled a 1/2" hole into both ends then mixed up some JB Weld and liberally applied it to a 1/2" dowel and on the mating surface.
We then held it tight with 2x4's and clamps to dry in the Southern CA heat overnight, then the next day we made the mount and I laid out guidelines in pencil and then wrote the names in with pencil and then used a hobby style wood burner to finish the arrows.
I really don't know 'how' he managed to be able to figure out the exact global position to have the arrows point to where the guests came from but he had a chart that I could lay at the bottom of the pole and position the arrows in the correct direction.
He/we did screw up and cut and labeled all of the arrows facing one way/the good news was that the bride loved it! She's planning on keeping it on the patio and 'age'. :tu
Anyway here's some pics of my 'roadside mile post':
