Default Have a Sip for Merle: RIP to the Okie from Muskogee

By far my favorite country singer, and one of the last of the REAL old school country outlaws, Merle Haggard passed away on his birthday at 79. Let's just be honest, most of what passes for "country" in the last 20 years or so is just really crappy, formulaic, bad pop music. With hits like "Workin' Man's Blues" and "If We Make it Through December," among many others, Merle was one of the original outlaws of country. I'll post a couple of my favorites here in remembrance:

While I'm at it, I think I'll have a sip of George Dickel. Remember the ad? "Water's for washin', and Dickel is for drinkin'.

I hope he and Waylon and some of the other old-time country outlaws are having a jam session today! RIP Merle.
