Thread: What is it Called??

So, the bread factory where I work has massive industrial light fixtures to keep it lit as bright as day inside while we churn out loaves of bread to the tune of 10,000+ loaves per hour, around the clock. It is also hot in there. I mean: hot like the devil's taint while he runs a marathon! I take issue with having to look across my large area in order to spot a jam-up, or to make sure things are running smooth while I clean.

So, I wanted something that would shield my eyes from the intense light. I also didn't want tinted safety glasses, as that would only make my face even more hot! I don't want to wear a 'ballcap for two reasons: it would hold heat against my head, and the visor would obstruct my sight. I still need to be able to see beacon lights, so I know where the jam-up is.

The preceding train of thought is how I came to the conclusion that I need on of these. For work.

(And no, I don't mean "Lt. Cmdr. Data". )

Even I think these things are superfluous, and I'd look strange wearing one! I can't remember what in blazes they are called! In conversation, I describe it as "ya know, them tinted visor/hat thingies! Usually green. Often worn by poker dealers?" Especially now that it's summer, I've kept a casual eye out for them when I am at the store. But, I haven't seen one of them in person since I was little.

Can anyone lend me a hand? Thanks in advance.

Nice, thanks! And thanks to the Wikipedia article, I now have a new lead for where to look: office supply stores! And if that doesn't pan out, I'll try places that sell stuff for game rooms (pool tables, poker sets, etc.).

Amazon has several styles of them, around $6-7.00.

Now that I know what it's called, that is probably where I will turn if I can't come across one locally whilst I run other errands.

My wife has dozens of them, visors for sale everywhere, first she bought them on the beach, and the last few she got at the Harley dealers , go to the ball park, vendors have them. , you get my point? There everywhere. And you think that's hot, try working in the oil patch in west Texas, hard hat, FRC coveralls, heavy boots, gloves and safety glasses all the time around equipment that will make the Devils taint seem like a cool breeze! I think a ball cap would be just fine. Tc

I used to work with him in New Mexico, running short on souls so he same to the oil patch, it was standard practice to measure the temp on guys with pants on fire so we could get it in our data logs. Tc
