July 2016 -- The hottest month on record!
I am not proposing to open a climate change debate...but this news is disturbing! Earth's hottest month on record was July 2016: NASA
I wonder where it will all end? And what is surprising is there seems to be little reaction to the news! Our children and their children will live in a very different world.

We already live in a very different world from 40 years ago, and I am not referring to the weather. Anyway .......... I have an app on my phone that gives the current temp &c and you can slide it over to the historically hottest/coldest day of the year in your zip code. For example, where I am in FL the hottest August 17th in history was 97 degrees back in 1937. Today is a cool 89.
Many of the days, I check daily, are hottest way back when. A relative few in the '90s and 2000s. There is a segment of the society that wants to micro manage everything from the weather to how many ounces of soda pop a restaurant can serve to a customer. Yep, different world.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

While Echoing Whizbang's desire not to open a climate change debate, it should be noted that the issue is not weather change, but climate change. While it can be hotter/colder, wetter/drier in a specific place at a specific time in comparison to another time, the issue is the BIG picture. So when we get insanely cold winters and buddy down at the Tim Horton's says something like "so much for global warming..." he's missing the point entirely. The temperature of the planet as a whole is rising at unprecedented rates. The data on that is irrefutable. But the local effect of that change can vary immensely. So the point isn't whether one locality is hotter or colder. It is how things are changing in the big picture. Glaciers melting, polar ice retreating, extreme heat, extreme cold, more frequent drought, more frequent flooding, increasingly severe and frequent storms... these are all some of the complex results of climate change. Personally, I wish the phrase 'global warming' had never been coined, but there you go. I'm just glad I'm not a polar bear. Those poor buggers are doomed.

Climate my butt.
Around 4 or 5 billion years ago you would have needed your asbestos suit just to go to the mailbox and get your mail.
This ain't nothing. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

For not wanting to open a climate change discussion, not shy about jumping in the deep end with both feet. For me man made climate change, global warming, does not exist. Hoax! So tired of this bullschtein. Its the Sun and/or Solar radiation. Not giving up my beef or hydrocarbons. Some say "green" is the new "red". I agree.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Just a few more degrees and polar ice will completely melt, raising ocean levels and freshening the seas ,stopping the gulf stream conveyor, melting billions of tons of frozen methane hydrate resulting in a mass extinction event ,thus paving the way for my cloned dinasours to rule the planet.

It is consistently near or over 100 here (central Texas) at this time of year! However, it has not gotten over 85 all this week because of clouds and lots of rain. Every year is different...

Just clarifying a point re the difference between weather and climate.
The reason I am not interested in engaging here in a debate on the wider issue is that it will inevitably become derailed and mud-slinging will ensue. And as with virtually every 'debate' over climate change it will become an ideological fight rather than an evidence-based debate. That helps nothing.
