Good article. To be honest, that's why I don't participate much, I refuse to get in arguments with,

    1. People I don't know
    2. People that would not dare to say the same things to my face, or what I call keyboard jockeys.
    3. People that all they do is brag about their stuff and make others feel small if you don't own the same.
    4. Ugly Fanboys

I got rid of Twitter, Google+, and YouTube. Never been on FB and don't care for it. I'm young and retired, what do I care what others think about me. Either people will like me or not, that's on them. It doesn't affect my life one way or the other.

    :-)

I think the author Joel Stein has too much time on his hands. He has gotten caught up in his own perceived importance. He "tipped his hand" in this article when he went down the anti-right Trump & Tea Party path.

Trolls have been around long before the internet; we had a more common term for them,,, the nether region of our body, commonly covered by our "Fruit Of The Looms."

Interesting article Richard, but as John said bullies biggots and anti social people existed long before the web was even thought of.

Yes, but it's a lot easier to be that way when you can hide behind anonymity, potentially avoiding any consequences.

Never doubted it, but it is more prevalent and wide spread on FB. It is used widely, also, by unscrupulous merchants through shills to try to dominate a market. There are so many gullible and innocent people being taken advantage of or intimidated by these types that it makes one want to cry at times.

Like all technology there is the good side and bad side. The more good there is the more bad there is.

The internet has done more to transform folks lives than anything in modern times however it has also opened up unlimited opportunity for those with ill intent.

Why just the other day I was hiking in the woods and I came upon a Black bear with his IPad ordering some lasers. He said he had a surprise for some hunters this fall.

The real PITA is not only having to teach your kid how to keep his lunch money at school, but also how to deal with unscrupulous people on the internet.

The most powerful tool we all possess to deal with these sad situations and unkind people is the "off" button.

We also have the moderators on forums like SRP to thank...they do a great job removing people who troll or disrupt.

Speaking of trolls, the author of that article had a pretty obvious anti-right agenda.
