    Default Henckels

I set out 3 Henckel razors last week a 50 and a 50 1/2 and then 6/8 round point. the first two are 11/16 and 5/8 respectfully. I do believe that if i hand only these three i would be set. I've gotten many shaves off each one and there still going strong. no pulling or tugging. These are all the carbon steel kind. some day i will aquire a stainless steel henckel. I think i would like to give one of them a try now that i've actually learned how to shave with the straight razors. Not to say I'm any good at it but I do know more now than when I started and it is getting easier and more fun.

just thought i would ramble on.

    I too have 3 Henckels.

My first straight was a 78½ which I had to refurbish. I then purchased a Henckels Friodur from Japan and my latest is a Henckels Platinum that I won recently in a raffle.

Each one is unique, they hold a great edge and shave brilliantly.

But I'll always have a special affinity for the 78½ being my first straight.

I have two Henckels, a 78 and a 1127, both fantastic shavers. A while back I acquired a 16 but sold it (I know, I'm an idiot) and spent three years looking for another in decent shape without having to spent a fortune on it. Within a 6 month period I ended up with two, won't be selling either one of these!

I think I have aquired about 10 or 12 Henckels over the years and to tell you the truth they all shave good now that I've gotten better at using them. Now i do have my favorites amoung them. The 50 square point stands out. It was given to me by a friend who had it really shave ready. The other is a 17 that also works great. It also was sent to me by a friend. They both are the old carbon steel razors but they both shine like new money. They're hollow ground but are quite stiff. That makes it easier for someone like me to use. When I started back with straights in 2012 I landed a 5/8 round point and both didn't have the knowledge to hone or to use and let it go. I'll not make that mistake again.

I have many Henckels, as they are my favorite brand. They never fail to perform for me. A couple of them were only performing as well as the hand that honed them. Once the hand got adjusted they are all beautiful shavers. Some I have bought, some I have traded for and one that was my Great Grandfathers. When it comes to Henckels razors, I prefer they come in and not go out. I have recently started a project of rescaling many of them in carved bone. Only the best for the long term residents.

I've got a Platinum 401, a 50 and a 78 but the Platinum is the only one I've ever had working. It has always done well but I haven't used it for a while. Seeing this thread makes me want to get the other two up and running too. The 78 just needs a bit of cleaning and a bevel set, the 50 is just a bare blade and I'll need to make some scales for it.
