Game of thrones season 6 finale
I am a big fan of GoT. Primarily the books, but I do love the tv series as well. And as my wife also likes the show, it's one that we watch together. I do need to act as a guide for my wife, explaining who is who and what the relevance is of X, but that's all good.
Yesterday we watched the finale to season 6, and it was just pure awesome. A number of story threads got wrapped up nicely, and one of the biggest twists was Cersei. I did NOT see that coming. This is to me the best moment of the season. Perhaps of the entire series so far, in terms of awesome.
At first I thought something would happen at her trial, one way or the other. When it was clear she was not showing up, I started to wonder where this was going.
I have the say this is also one of the best uses of dramatic music I have seen in a loooong time.
Pycelle got his grisly comeuppance and at first I didn't understand why they spend time on Lancel going through the catacombs.
When Lancel got stabbed in the back and you see him looking at the casks, I thought: 'I wonder if....'
And then the viewpoint changes to Cersei looking at the great Sept and I say out loud 'Wildfire...'
My wife of course doesn't get what is going on so I tell her to just keep looking because this will be epic.
The dramatic music continues, Margaery understands that despite out maneuvering Cersei at every point, she's going to lose.
And then...
This was just awesome. I think Cersei's a bitch who should have died many times already, but this move was just tactical brilliance.
Of course she also destroyed whatever chance she had in the long run because the Tyrells are the ones feeding the city, and she has no allies left outside her family.
Still, wonderful dramatic twist that I didn't see coming until I saw those casks.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Yeah, that was pretty epic.
I didn't see it coming but there were clues like references to the Mad King stockpiling wildfire under King's Landing and threatening to ignite it and Cersei's knowledge of the wildfire and pyromancers after Tyrion used it in the Blackwater battle. Didn't she actually take credit for this while Tyrion was recovering from his head wound?
Perhaps Cersei's actions are a hint to her and Jaime actually being sired by a Targaryean. My pet theory is that the Lannister children and John Snow will turn out to be related to Danerys.

Bruno, have you ever thought about forging something Game of Thrones themed?
A working Valyerian steel knife would be awesome.

Thanked: 4207Great episode, and show for sure!
I too clued in during Lancel's stabbing and saw the green in the background. Was a grand revenge. "Shame, Shame!"
And the fact that they don't know of the armada approaching yet,,,, yee haa.
All this, and frikkin Dragons that look,,,, like Dragons!
Love the series.
Making a GOT inspired razor, I'd support that idea too.

Big Thrones fan here, though the wife bailed on me early in the 1st season. For some reason she thought it was too violent and perverted-I can't imagine why. I definitely loved Season 6, looking forward to 7. (My favorite scene was probably Ramsay Bolton being eaten by his own hounds!)
I'm about halfway through book 5, as I watched the series before the books, but hope to read all the way through as time permits.
For what it's worth, I have always pulled for the underdog characters like Aria, Brienne of Tarth, Tyrion and Jon Snow. I want to like Danaerys Storm-Born, but she has a real cold streak some time. What a great and gripping series, so richly written and fully realized, and way more complex even than Tolkien's world.
Another Netflix binge-watch I just couldn't stop watching recently was Sons of Anarchy: haunting characters, and maybe the best music I've ever heard in any television drama. Try it if you haven't already!

My favorite character is the hound. The depth of his character is not really shown on tv, and the relationship between him and Arya is really done badly on screen. In the books they develop a special relationship much more clearly.
Really looking forward to the next books tbh.
The story is the books is much better (much more complex with many more players) but I concede that for a story of such complexity they gutted it fairly well. They managed to exclude a lot of storylines without hurting the main storylines too much. And the portrayal in the series, from the actors to the big scenes, is done pretty well and a nice complement to the books.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Yeah, I had forgotten how much I sort of like the Hound (monster that he is). There is often a terrible logic to the killings he commits totally without conscience or remorse. So many great characters-I even enjoyed "hate-watching" Cercei (didn't everyone?).

Cersei is one of those characters you love to hate.
