The Circus Will Never Come to Town Again
Just heard on the news, Barnum & Baily-Ringling Bros Circus will close down forever. It's sad to think my young boys will not get the chance to see the circus.
But they say since the activists made them retire the Elephants, crowds have shrunk considerably. As well as kids are into video and virtual reality more than reality.
Just think, when the circus started there were only 37 stars on our flag...............Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

Thanked: 481I wish I could say I was sad to hear it, but honestly I hated being dragged to the circus as a kid. Or any such outing really. They usually meant a long car ride, and hours of walking around. More often than not everyone would be tired, angry, and sore by the time we got back home.
And clowns are the stuff of nightmares. In no small part thanks to the movie IT.
The tigers were cool, but not really worth putting up with the rest of the frustration to see. I guess that's the end result of having a parent so hell bent on forcing you to have fun that they take the fun right out of it. I haven't been to a circus or amusement park since I turned 16 and could no longer be forced into it.

I only got to enjoy the circus after I got older. I get to see the animals of all species at the zoo.

The circus is a relic of another age and has been on life support for a long time elephants or not.

Yeah it has been on life support for long time Bigspendur. IT is more ofa thing of the past I guess.
Marshal, I understand what you are saying, there were just some things that weren't all that much fun when made to go.
But 35 years ago it was pretty dang cool I have to say.
Geezer, I am with you on that, I enjoyed it more when my 2 oldest were able to enjoy it.Look sharp and smell nice for the ladies.~~~Benz

have a hard time believing that the animals were treated that terribly but on the other hand people just aren't entertained by the same kinds of things anymore. Kind of like bowling alleys, skating rinks and drive in movies.

Life goes on and everything changes. At one time people viewed stereo photos and went to socials and later they gathered around the radio. Just wait until VR and AI take off in 10 years or so. I predict movie theaters will all close cause you won't need them. Folks will sit around with those stupid visors on their heads like a bad B movie from the 1970s.

Thanked: 13246Wife and I just saw the ad
Felt nostalgic for about 10 seconds then said "Yeah we haven't been in over 20 years, probably wouldn't go again"
Maybe we would feel different if we had kids or grandkids

The circus filled a tremendous need to all people back many years ago. We did not have the ease of travel we have today where we can get around and see the world. We could not reach in our pockets, pull out our phones and see anything we want to online. I hate to say it, but it no longer has the draw it once had with children for those reasons an thus it is one more forgotten thing of the past.
