If you make that Germany I'll go along with that. Love the "third chance" bit.

The last I heard she was leading in the polls. I know France has a different election process than the US so leading in the polls may not necessarily translate to winning an election there.

I watched some of her speeches. I'm no longer fluent in French, but I did take four or five years of it when I was younger so I'm glad there were subtitles.

The French are one of the more nationalistic countries. Most Francophones I think are fiercely proud of being French. That being said, in addition to being proud, France has had a long history of being multicultural and Le Pen is proud of that. She's proud that the history of France includes so many cultures assimilating in France and historically after immigrating to France becoming proud to be French.

Her issue is that she does not believe France should allow immigrants that don't want to be French. Assimilation (good) is not the same thing as integration (bad).

In a nutshell: We're France. We're proud to be French. If you want to come here and want to proud to be French (including learning the language) you're welcome. If you want to come here but you do not want to assimilate and you do not want to be French and you did not want to be proud to be French. You're not welcome.

I would recommend finding some of her speeches and watching them. I'm very glad that I've done that. It made me realize that prior to hearing her own words I was only getting negative spin.

Personally, I think she should be made persona non grata in Canada. That is regardless of how innocent her speeches may seem to some. Fear and hate mongering can be made to sound attractive and reasonable which it never is. It can take several generation to integrate fully into a new country's way of life and most do so.
