Thanked: 77Things you shouldn't use to clean your straight razors!
I just read a post and it got me thinking. I figured it would be a good idea to post all the things you shouldn't use to clean your finished straight razors as well as why
Alcohol on acrylic razor scales- causes them to deform and crack!
Hydrogen peroxide- causes steel to rust rapidly!
If you have anything else to add to this list please do! Suggestions would be appreciated by all!

Thanked: 3795Bleach and steel do not play well together.
On second thought, actually, the problem is that they play together too well, but you may deeply regret the way your blade looks afterward.Last edited by Utopian; 03-04-2017 at 02:09 PM.

Thanked: 634I just use ordinary tap water and dry well. Then strop blade on canvas and leather and place in rack that is open to the air. Horn scales I may apply some neetsfoot oil once in a while if I remember.

Thanked: 292Keep your blades away from any acidic substance like vinegar, lemon juice, or cleaners (Lime-A-Way or Barkeeper's Friend, etc.) that contain sulfamic acid. You might be tempted to try these substances on rust spots. Although they will remove the rust, the acid promotes additional rust later.

Don't use your fingers. Oil and acid will be left behind besides the obvious possibilities.
