Default 2017 Ag Museum Open House.

Today I drove the 150+ round trip miles to attend the 2017 Eastern Washington Agricultural Museum's Open House and Old Time Horse Drawn Farming Exhibition. This is the fourth straight year I've been able to attend. I am a member of the museum.

The weather was fair and it looked like a good turnout. I was only able to take a few pics as I messed up and left the spare battery and charger at home AND of course the battery in the camera died.

With that said I got a couple of nice pics.

Check this out. An actual Chuck/Cook Wagon that was used in the fields to feed Harvest Crews. It was added to the museum last year.

How about some Steam Power? While they didn't have it running this year, two or three years ago it was going 'Full Steam' and my 6-7 year old grandson thought that it was a Train Engine. Yes it does have a whistle and they sounded it quite often.

Here's a little info about the steam engine.

Now this steam tractor was operating when I took the pic, however the shutter speed stopped that movement. I was hoping that the turning wheels would actually have been blurry to show that it was indeed in operation.

You know we work hard to restore or clean up razors, sometimes going all the way to try to get the finish on the blades or scales as close to 'Original' as possible but how many of us would dedicate their life for NINE years to build from scratch a Full Sized Replica of the Original Holt Steam Engine Catipillar Track Drive Tractor?

I hope all have enjoyed the few pic and the video.

The camera's battery hadn't died quite yet but every time I went to try to take a picture it was full of people.

Being new it was quite popular.

I'll be taking a very special tour later this month when it will only be my cousin (who is vice president of the museum) and a very special guest and I'll be sure to get more pictures. As it's been said; And you can take that to the bank.

Vintage agricultural machines are fun. On our village's common a patch of potatoes and barley is grown every year that is harvested and processed in the autumn using vintage equipment. Potatoes are sold to the lookers-on.

I'd like to see pictures of that! Please keep that in mind for the next harvest!

I've posted pictures before of the horse drawn demonstrations but they are plowing, harrowing, discing and seeding.

I bet that seeing harvesting with vintage machinery would be way cool.

did you ride there or drive? I mean riding a horse to a vintage Ag display would be appropriate. Tc

Believe me brother I tried, but the Rain and Cold God's were against me! If it would have been on the day before that Iron Horse and I would have been ONE!

This is from the EWAM's website, it shows how they used to transport sacks of wheat from the top of the hills down to the river to be loaded on barges to take down river. Once the railroad was completed the tramways were abandoned.

This happens to be the Mayview Tramway, the one that my great grandfather and grandfather used was the Judkins Tramway, they both operated in the same manner.

I hope all will enjoy the 'Silent Film' and the accompanying photos.
