Make Mine Double Cheese For Life
Some background. I'll admit to being a little over the AMA weight to height ratio thingy. I've always loved good food. Some of which may not necessarily be on the low fat list. Every year after my annual physical which always reflected normal blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels my doc would ask the inevitable question. "Do you think you could lose a little weight this year"? To which I always respond that it's the wrong question.
Of course I can. More importantly will I.
Fast forward to a few months ago. After 38 years of marriage my wife expresses concern about me being a little out of breath after some light physical exersion. Under protest I agree to a stress test. From there it was on to the cardiologist, a coronary angiography and follow up appointment with my wife present.
Drum roll .......... "all clear". After 63 years of trying ..... nothing, nada, zip.
The rest of the conversation with the doc goes like this.
Me: Any reason why I should be concerned about having a heart attack or stroking out?
Doc: Very unlikely.
Me: Do we need to have a follow up appointment?
Doc: No.
Me: See you.
As we walk out of the building I notice my wife is smiling with relief so I give her a big hug and ......
Me: Make mine double ........
Her: heavy sigh ....Keep your concentration high and your angles low!
Despite the high cost of living, it's still very popular.

Thanked: 3795That's great news, but, wouldn't it be nice if you were NOT out of breath after a little exertion?
Maybe occasionally you could just have a single?!
Signed,

Doc says no worries. I would say, enjoy yourself.
Would you rather croak after eating a bowl of quinoa and kale or a bacon double cheeseburger?
Last skinny guy funeral that I went to, they still had six guys carrying him.

Yes, a little exersise would help and it would help me too but i too am in good medical shape so why? Getting out of breath now and then does kinda tell you to cut back some. I try to loose a little but i find if i drop 5 to 10 pounds it just come back in a week or two so i just try to enjoy life and not worry too much about it.
Good for you to get checked out. That never hurts. Well, most the time dont hurt! It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 369"Is it true that you smoke eight to ten cigars a day?"
"That's true."
"Is it true that you drink five martinis a day?"
"That's true."
"Is it true that you still surround yourself with beautiful young women?"
"That's true."
"What does your doctor say about all of this?"
"My doctor is dead."

I just got an all clear from my checkup ...
I confess I have given up on the double and go for a single but I so enjoy a well put together burger.
The new news is that good fat ratios in good food are fine in moderation according to a lot of current research.
The huffing and puffing well that may be the extra weight or just infrequent exercise.
Take that wife of yours for a walk each Saturday morning before it gets too hot.
Ten min, twenty ... long enough to smell the air, smell the roses, and smell her hair when
you giver her another nice hug.
Keep moving and enjoy each day.

Congrats on the clean Bill Of Health, OP. But I'd be very careful on those double cheeseburgers. Eventually, those will catch up with you. As a treat? Fine. As standard fare? I'd steer clear.
I've always been lean and in shape, mostly because I've always been an endurance athlete. Running, cycling, swimming with some weight training will keep you lean and healthy as long as you don't eat yourself out of your workouts. You can always do this. I've got friends that run marathons, so they think they can eat like garbage dumps, and it shows. It takes hours of hard exercise to burn 2,000 calories. It only takes 30 minutes to eat them plus another 1,000 to actually gain weight after a hard workout. Lean protein and low glycemic carbs are the key to keeping your weight down and your heart healthy.
I let my training guide my eating. I can go further, faster on salmon, brown rice, and broccoli than I can with a milkshake and a cheeseburger. But once in a while? Sure! I indulge in something "not-so-healthy". My passion happens to be hot dogs and rootbeer. I could eat a dozen with a gallon of rootbeer. Will power and training keeps me off of that train wreck.
I lost a very good friend two years ago to a massive coronary from a clogged coronary artery (the widowmaker). He was thin and lean but never exercised. He used to brag how good he looked and could eat anything he wanted and still stay thin. And he did - he ate anything he wanted as much as he wanted. He was a garbage disposal. And it caught up with him. Even though he looked healthy, he passed away with 85 percent of his coronary artery clogged.
So everything in moderation is my motto. Sure, I want to enjoy life and eat great food, but cakes, pies, cheeseburgers, fatty steak, bacon, hot dogs and pizza are foods I classify as treats rather than meals.
My 2 cents worth.
Aloha!

My daughter in laws dad used to give me crap cause he said I needed to lose some weight and not eat cheeseburgers to, He ran 5 days a week and was almost a vegetarian, we buried him 10 years ago and when the funeral was over I went and had a steak! IM, STILL HERE! Guess what my dads 88 and he's outlived 2 of his doctors who Ted him to stop eating bacon and eggs every day and lay off the whiskey,, He's still here. Congrats on the good hysical I just passed mine too, you will die when the big guy calls. Think I,ll have a hot dog and 5-6 beers and a good cigar! Tc
Just remembered genetics has a lot to do with that cholesterol thing,, and watching your intake is a good thing, but trust me, my cholesterol was just great his last checkup, and living out on oil rigs for 40 years of my life , ain't nothing but fried meat.
