While there are words for the pictures in this link, I hope I'm forgiven. It's kind of fun to see how people were dealing with winter 100 years ago and how they were dressed for it..
There are 'Picture Commercials' but when the screen goes black just click on the arrow on the right and the next picture will appear.
I hope all will enjoy.

Thanked: 2284I gotta say....
Was helping my Dad today (recovering from hip replacement) with his man made pond. Just a little 12' pond with a waterfall. It's deep with a flag stone shelf so the fish can swim underneath, and stay in year round. Dad has a bubbler he runs through the winter to keep the water slightly oxygenated for the fish. He needed me to help him clean out around the bubbler, so I pulled it up and what did I find but a tiny little snapping turtle. Probably been there all winter. Eyes closed laying dormant. Dad doesn't want them in the pond cause they'll eat his precious fish. Haha. Don't blame him. So I took the little turtle and let him go down by the waterfalls in town. Hopefully the guy survives.Burls, Girls, and all things that Swirl....

That poor tree was growing in a little hole in concrete. It did good to get as big as it got before it tipped over!

^ lol! Came down across from my digs today due to really high winds and age...amazing it didn't hit either of my neighbors' houses dead on...though they have a helluva job on their hands--definitely it's stuff like this that makes home owners insurance worth it!

I used to work with a guy who decided to build his own home and he did. He did everything from the forms to pour the foundation, the framing, installing the dry walling, installing the windows, the roofing everything. The only thing that he really butted heads with the building inspector was that he had to purchase the Rafters and he wanted to make them himself.
Anyway he did a nice job.
One day a few years later we were having one hell of a windstorm and he and one of his young sons were watching from a large picture window. There was a very large tree in the yard and the wind wasn't being very merciful on it. The son said "Dad, I think that tree's going to blow down". My friend said he looked at his boy and said "Son, that tree was standing long before you or I were born and will be standing long after we both are gone".
No sooner had he said that---the tree ever so slowly uprooted and slowly laid down on his roof.
I guess only three shingles needed replaced but my friend was just beside him self. He used to tell the story and then say "I'd just got the words out of my mouth and that F***ing tree blew over.
