Spreadsheet formula
I was given an excel spreadsheet that also figures out bevel angles from a fine member here on the forum. Now i want to make my own. I have a friend stopping by for brats and beer on monday who is a retired computer programmer. And he said that when he worked for Hp he fixed excel and its issuesmany years ago. So i think im in good hands.
But today he asked me if i had the formula for the bevel angle to input. I had to tell him no but id try to.get it. So... anyone have this info? What would be needed to input into excel? He said he ould most likely come up with it but if i could find it would be quicker.
Thanks for any help.It's just Sharpening, right?

I told him i asked for it on the forum. He said not to worry as he can come up with it but if someone already knows it it would be helpful.
It wasnt too long ago that i learned that / was the same as ÷ so he knows my limits. Great friend and doesnt make me feel stupid when it would be so easy for him to do.
Thanks again for any help.It's just Sharpening, right?

Hi Jerry, do you want to calculate the bevel angle given the spine width and the blade's width, or do you want to figure out the blade's width to aim for (like if you're making a blade) given a spine width and a bevel angle you want to end up with?

Thanked: 13246This is the Google box calculation
(2 * asin(.181 / (2 * .620)) * 180) / pi = 16.786646
Blue = Spine width
Red = Blade height
Plug in the numbers, Copy it to the Google Search box and Boom Math !!!!"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Thanked: 3227You can download the excel file from here http://coticule.be/wedges.html to calculate bevel angles. Just plug in the measurements for your answer. Close enough for horse shoes and hand grenades. for me anyway.

I never felt the need to know the bevel angle. Am I missing something?

Thanks Bob. We tried that and my program was too old so you hooked me up with the one I have now. Now I want to change things around and dont know enough to do it so I'll have a friend do it for me and make a new one. That's the plan anyhow.
I'm not making blades or anything like that. I just like to know the angles of my razors. Its just because. No real reason. Just more info on what I have. Hoping that maybe it will some day tell me something about the razors I own and what I like more. If not then its just to have the info.
And your right Kees. I see no need except I just want it.
Bob, He might be able to pull the info off the file I have now but I'm afraid it could be off. As most of my razors as way high according to that program. Could be right. I'm just wanting to be more sure and with the help of a local friend I'll be able to compare and know whats right on wrong.It's just Sharpening, right?
