Thread: Bar tending equipment

Really all I want is a stir rod and shaker. Both glass preferable to prevent the drink from being tainted with a metallic taste absorbed by metallic stir rod or shaker. I checked out ebay. They had a selection of shakers which I might get, but not a lot of stir rods...

Anybody know a good set I could get? Or any particular brand? My friend got a metallic shaker, but it was horrible. Tried to have a martini night, and it leaked EVERYWHERE! That's about the time I decided to get plastic playing cards from COPAG...

Most of the better shakers are made from metal, but there are plastic versions. You don't really find to many glass on glass shakers (they are not practical...can you imagine a piece of glass chipping off into your drink?).
If you are looking for a three piece shaker, you can find a glass and plastic ones here. MOst of the bartenders I know shop there.
They also carry mixing glasses and bar spoons (metal though)

Most cities have at least a few restaurant supply stores with a few options.

I have a great cut glass set but it was left to me by my grandfather so I can't help you out, even that has a metal top so it seals well.

Honestly I'm afraid to shake in it because I might drop it

I use a decent stainless set I got back in college and have never felt it left a particular taste. Of course you should just shake and serve, if there is any leftovers they should be strained into a pitcher rather then left in the shaker, with the Ice.

Yeah, all glass shakers have some sort of steel for the top. If steel does leave a taste, it's very minute and won't be noticable.

I was also thinking about how the drink wouldn't be left in the shaker. We'd distribute it all. I guess I'll be going after a steel shaker. Hopefully I can find a relatively cheap silver one (conducts heat much better than stainless steel).
