Default Congratulations US Olympic womens hockey team

Congratulations to the US Women's hockey team for their victory earning them an Olympic gold medal. Must have been a great game ending with a shoot out to determine the winner. A local member of Team Canada, Haley Irwin, helped keep Team Canada in the game by scoring a goal.

Great win. Its all the sweeter for me to see so many current and former Wisconsin Badgers on both teams.

It's such a great rivalry that while I *hate* seeing any game settled by penalties, it's good that it was a close one.

Unfortunately I missed it due to the time difference and my need to be at the office this morning. Ah well...

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I stayed up to watch, the game was back and forth mostly, pretty even but the US capitalized on a bad shift late in the 3rd and tied it up. Not making excuses but the officiating was pretty inconsistent both ways missed penalties. I do hate a shootout but after 80 minutes something has to be done. So, congrats to the US Women for winning the gold.

When I played back in the 80s (very low-level stuff, but loads of fun for the most part), a tournament I played in used what I now think is a brilliant system for OT. Start 5-on-5. After 5 mins, go to 4-on-4. Another 5 mins, then 3-on-3, and so on. We had one that ended in a 2-on-2. It was exhausting to play, but I think it was a WAY better method of settling the thing. I've been lobbying for this system to be adopted across the board ever since.

I've been wanting to ask you this for awhile but always forget.. I see you are from Thunder Bay and from the early 90's to 08 I along with my dad and varying friends would take a 7-10 day fishing trip to Ontario. The 1st time we did a fly-in out of Chapleau and from then on we seemed to work our way West little by little. The last few years were out of Nakina and Nipigon.. Great fishing, great times and wish we were still doing it.. I had heard that a number of lodges and outfitters in your area got hit hard by the economy and have shut down. Is that true and if so is it starting to come back? (Fishing/Hunting related tourism $$$).. Also, while in Nipigon we took a day off and drove to Thunder Bay one year. I had never been there and had no expectations driving in, what a surprise that was!! I thought so highly of the few hours being there that I took my wife and the dog for a weeks vacation in 2012. Loved it!!

Wish I could say how the tourism industry is doing but just don't have much to do with it especially the lodge/outfitters part of the business. Glad to hear you had an enjoyable time in T-Bay. Don't know if you are aware but over 100 years ago the world record 14 pound 8 once Brook trout was caught in the Nipigon River by a DR. JW Cook of Fort William which is now part of T-Bay. If you make it back here be sure and look us up.
