    Default A bit of nostalgia

I've been watch re-runs of the best cop show produced to date, NYPD Blue. No flashy chases and un-needed violence. No gratuitous sex. Just straightforward investigation into the nature of man, both good and bad and how each of us copes with the reality of every day. The characters are so well developed from episode to episode that after a while you are deeply involved as if they were your co-workers and family. It was a series for adults.

Nonsense, Naked City holds that title.

When I started working one of my partners was a retired NYC Detective and he always said that show was the real deal.

I agree with NYPD Blue. I loved it the first time through, and you've inspired me to go back and view them all again.

Nelson, Naked City was too stylized. NYPD Blue never strayed from accurately depicting human emotions with all its foibles.

Richard, I'm on DirecTv and it is playing on the Audience channel.

Remember naked City was a long time ago and it accurately depicted what a police investigation actually is. As far as the emotional stuff goes they couldn't do that back then and honestly that's all window dressing to me.

Not familiar with Naked City. Don't remember much about Blue. I'll have to look those up sometime.
Tell me, did they ever get a suspect's attention from a distance so they had an opportunity to run away?
That seems to be a common practice on cop shows now. Nearly instantaneous forensic testing?

    Nawwwww.

    Barney Miller was the best.

But I always liked, "...Be careful out there" from Hill Street Blues, which also was not a terribly realistic cop show.

I never saw Naked City either. I'll have to look it. If nothing else it should make for an interesting Google search.

Naked city had little forensic and no gee whiz kind of stuff. It was an old fashioned gumsole approach to solving cases and sometimes the good guys lost.

It looks like there are quite a few episodes of Naked City on youtube.

JP5, in Blue they generally blocked a suspect on the street from running too far by having the detectives come from all angles. In the later police programs, they added chases to keep viewer attention and viewer growth.
