Thread: Anarchy in the UK!?!

So WTF is happening in the UK with the daily robberies on mopeds, robbing people in their cars, jewelry stores, mayhem in the streets of London, knife murders?

Higher crime and murder rate than NYC in the 1970's I've read?

Does London have a Police force? Do they do anything, read lots of complaints that they aren't patrolling the streets? Are they all having Tea and making sure no one calls anyone a bad name on the internet?

Is Mayor Khan paying any attention....possibly had plans to head over their to visit the wife's relatives...no way.

WHat is happening to that once great city?

It's all due to Brexit: police officers being trained for customs jobs.

Could it be a virus? Maybe from an influx of immigrants? Robberies on mopeds very common in third world countries due to the numbers of mopeds and ability to weave through traffic to get away scot free!

Like any crime-related situation, I suspect the answers are varied, complex, and well beyond my understanding. Especially since I no longer reside in the UK and so am not a part of that society. However, my understanding is that there have been very severe cuts not only to policing but also to social and other programs that are intended to address the underlying causes rather than papering over the symptoms of crime.

I don't think it can all be laid at the mayor's feet as I understand the funding for London's police (and other UK law enforcement) comes from Westminster, not from the local gov't.

See where you're coming from - definitely complex issues.

Having said that, reverting 250 + years in history to where, "Highwaymen" are assaulting, killing and robbing people on the streets and roads is never acceptable - regardless of circumstances, and can't be allowed to continue.

Perhaps they should put some armed undercover military in the streets to start taking some of these criminal gangs out. I would even wonder if there is an old law still on the books regarding "highwaymen" and how they were summarily treated when caught robbing carriages and the Royal Mail.

It boggles my mind, how a modern city such as London, could allow itself to descend into a pre Victorian era of lawlessness and chaos, and have no solutions other than to point fingers at each other. It is a failure of Westminster as you point out, and a failure of the Mayor of London, who should be screaming for immediate help.

Smashing in shop windows, robbing people in their cars and homes, swarming them on bikes, this is not only a daily plague in London, one could refer to it almost as hourly. It should be an, "All Hands on Deck" situation and all the police available should be actively patrolling the streets.

Don't know why this perturbs me so much, frankly, from an emotional standpoint, I'd like to see them deploy some armed police units and army units as decoys and undercover, and start erasing them from the population until the message becomes clear that this type of behaviour, regardless of your personal circumstances is unacceptable.

While the Rodrigo Roa Duterte solution to crime may appear to be appealing in the short run, long term it may have unintended bad consequences. Like eating donuts, extrajudicial killings, are hard to know at what point to stop. It does nothing to eliminate the underlying root causes of crime.

I have heard talk of no go areas in the UK. But try as I might I can't find them ��

There are seedy areas in most places. I don't need the sensational media to tell me anything about it.
All that is needed is to look around you and decide to turn back at times.

Besides, I don't believe much the media tells me these days..
