    Default World Cup 2018

Have we really made it half way through the first round without a dedicated World Cup thread?! Or are my search skills just letting me down?

How are you enjoying it so far? Who do you support? Who do you really want to see crash out?

I think it has been great in that the usual suspects have found things difficult, and some unexpected results have helped make things interesting. It has also been a good reminder of why I'm not much of a better: my office pool picks are looking terrible so far.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I really enjoyed watching the Nigeria - Iceland match. The Nigerians played wonderfully!

I have been enjoying it a lot. Sad USA didn't get in but I am hoping Mexico goes far. Mexico Germany game was really good to watch. I really want to see Brazil and Argentina crash out. Not a huge fan of Ronaldo but I think he might take Portugal far this world cup.

Also what are your opinions on the video replays for Refs? I am super happy with it so far. Was great watching Neymar dive and not get a PK this morning haha.

video replay refs are highly inconsistent and unreliable in the games I watched, it is still better with 'em than without, needs better coordinating and coherence

Not that I care much, but the world cup creates a pretty fun vibe around here and gives the people a common and shared interest to root for, a social bonding feeling of togetherness that otherwise is rarely present

Wow, shocker! Switzerland slipped a pass between Serbia's defense leading to a last minute goal that will probably be the winning goal. Serbia was playing much better ball and should have won.

Yeah, that was pretty funny. I don't understand why he wasn't booked for what was really a terrible dive.

Can't stand Ronaldo. He's an absolute genius on the pitch, but because of him and Pepe, I just can't bring myself to wish Portugal well.

I agree about Iceland-Nigeria, and while I'm kind of half-watching it while working, the Serbia-Switzerland match sounds like a cracker too.

I'm mostly an NHL / icehockey fan,

but damn, these soccer players are some of the most fake acting athletes (pussies) I've ever seen and egos, many egos

They are great athletes AND have big egos. That is true with a lot of sports, see NBA. As far as the acting, it does turn me off and I hate it. In saying that, some clubs even have acting lessons for just that. This is so they can possibly get the referee to buy what they are selling and get a penalty kick out of it or a defending player sent off with a red card.

I'm sure you know that and that is why referees are told to give these players a yellow card for embellisment.

Belgium look like they have started to click as a team. They should be fun to watch the rest of the way.

Well done Mexico and Germany - but hard luck on Sweden. I really thought Germany were going to Arsenal that one: dominate possession and end up with nothing to show for it. As a Gooner, I can get away with saying that! Kroos must be relieved he had a chance to redeem that terrible pass.

Also speaking as a Gooner, it was great to see Vela get that goal.

Crazy games today. Iran almost got through, and Morocco vs. Spain looked like a crazy game. Sadly couldn't watch the games live today
