This is a response to X's thread about censoring ourselves.
I am, btw, in favor of self censorship. It's how polite people behave.

I am also highly offended by how certain people will be post# 53 in a thread THAT WAS CLEARLY NOT ABOUT RAZORS and post some inane drivel about
" Golly gee Wally, I thought this was about razors and now I'm gonna cry because it isn't".

Can you people not tell that "Another Knife Thread" isn't about razors?
How about "The World's Smallest Political Quiz" ??

I would think, correct me if I'm wrong, it would be pretty damn (can I say damn?) obvious what this was about.

Rereading it would have me believe that Steve left because of someone spouting some Leftist crap and throwing sticks and stones at "Amerika"
Based on who was doing it, maybe we need a fence on our northern border too.
After all, Socialism is a major threat to the US and with it being so close I think we need to be more vigilant.
If you hate US enough to come right out and say it then maybe you hate us enough to funnel terrorists into our country.

well Bruno.... contrary to what someone might think.....

as a person who often has drastically (drastically)
different views from those around me, I am actually MORE tolerant of other peoples positions, mostly because I spend lots of time as "Odd man out" myself.

Sometimes people with radically different views have arrived there through logic and reason and much hard thinking and to just dismiss them as being so much horse pucky is irrational.

I would want my views to be heard.

Much of the time I will argue one side or the other just to try to stimulate conversation and exchange of ideas, not because I believe what I am saying.

Of course I always seem to get PM from a Mod because some whine ass read what I said, or is new and hasn't gotten to know me yet, and am told that I'm offending someone.

I'm in shock. I... actually... agree... with GW's... sentiments. (Wow, that didn't hurt so much after all ). Politeness costs nothing (as they say), and I certainly susbscribe to the "if you can't take it, don't read it" philosophy.

I feel that as civilized adults we should be able to discuss controversial subjects in such a forum. The main value I get out of these discussions is they require me to think. I don't just spout out something I heard on TV, radio, or someone I overheard in a coffee shop.

I don't see any problems with getting fired up in an o/t thread as long as we keep things civil and it doesn't spill out to cause bad blood in other areas. As far as I'm concerned, what gets said in there should stay in there.
