Not many things could have made that atrocity even more tragic. The realization that it was - literally - pointless is one of those things though.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

That’s incredibly well said. You’ve always been literate though! Damn.
Of the countless mass shootings here, Vegas will always stick out for me for a couple of reasons.
The first reason being that though I’ve never been a semi guy, I bought an AR 4 days before the shooting thinking I’d give one a go for Pooh’s and Giggles. Oddly enough, I was put on a 5 day hold. Therefore the day after the shooting, I picked up my brand new semi. I kind of felt dirty doing as much. Stupid I know.
The second reason was for some reason I knew that this time there would be no letter or any overt reasoning. I just knew it. I profiled the guy as the news came in and just knew it. Even Fighting about it with friends who had all kinds of theories about it.

This shooting and the many others that unfortunately have taken place. Will always be difficult, if not impossible for any of us to understand.
We all process it and look at them from our perspective.
The people that commit these acts. See their world in a way that we are horrified by. Should we stop trying to understand them no. Can we prevent every deranged, insane person from doing evil? No.
The sad thing for me. Is the way terrible acts are used by politicians to advance their agenda. Logic, reasoning, knowledge and common sense. Get left in the wake of emotional arguments that something needs to be "done" to prevent such acts in the future.
If the loser that killed the concert goers in Las Vegas had left a note. Would it take away the grief of the families of the victims. Not at all.
If all guns were banned and confiscated. We would all die from old age correct? No he could have instead rented a large box truck and drove into the crowd. Like the Jihadi losers did in France. They killed 30 more people.
I wish that news agencies would never report the identities of the killers. Or show their pictures. Many of them want to garner fame from their acts. Deny them that.
I believe that evil has and always will unfortunately exist. And there is always good that exists to balance things out.
I try to live by the golden rule. Stay true to the values that my parents taught me. Teach those things to my daughter.
So she can carry on. My $.02 Ken

To someone who is a loser and things don't go their way society as a whole is to blame and society must pay for any perceived injustices the individual has suffered over the years. Whether it's mental illness or the pillar of the community who snaps it doesn't make any difference.
That's about as much of an explanation you will ever get.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 4827It is tragic.
Things can and should be done.
We could all open our minds to those with mental health issues.
I think we could have a moment of silence for the victims of all tragic violence.
Then we could have a moment of silence for those who suffer mental illness. Many suffer in silence, afraid of the judgement that may befall them if society knew that they were not wrapped too tightly. Meanwhile the silence is part of the problem, not the solution. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I think that if more people, when such a tragedy occurs, turned off their TVs, had that heart felt moment, and then approached the topic of mending this problem without the garbage spit at them from their TVs... perhaps then we might find answers.
I'm aware of at least one philosopher with claims that simplicity rules the day, and that may be, yet if the content of a word spoken is avoided, no matter how simple a concept, they may as well be speaking Greek.
So many of us avoid the complex content. It's a safe place.
This does not often support solutions OR freedom. IMHO

Every time one of these things happen folks wring their hands and answer according to their personal beliefs and then go back to their routines and it's all forgotten. That's how society deals with death. Unless your personally involved it's like that person just disappeared and then just move on. That's the way it has to be for society to continue.
If I were a fatalist I would say during prehistoric times humans might end the day falling victim to an animal attack or disease or tribal raid or hunting accident. For most of history most kids never made it to adulthood.
We all live in a highly complex society but those factors still exist just that they have changed. Maybe it's street violence or being caught up in a war somewhere or a vehicle wreck or disease. No one is born with a birth certificate containing a warranty of any kind and no one knows if the morning they wake up will be their last on this Earth. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
