Thanked: 98Personal Travel
Well, my year is coming to a close and as we shut down our European operation for winter the family and I will be doing six weeks through the US. Any suggestions in the following areas for must see/do shave stops let me know.
1. Raleigh NC and outer banks
2. Indianapolis IN/Louisville KY (I guess Cincinnati is drivable too!)
3. Durango CO
4. San Diego CA
We have about an equal time each place so plenty of time for a quick day trip any direction. Thanks!

San Diego has the old ships in dry dock. A few tours are given regularly. My Dad really enjoyed the tour but he had spent time on a ship. Might be fun if your into that type of thing. But, the ZOO is a big one and a must see if you have the time.
Durango has the Million Dollar Highway close by. Its just a highway thru the mountains but was built with the leftovers of Gold Mines. They figure Millions of Dollars of Gold are under it still as they couldn't get all the gold out with the type of refining they did back then.
Train Rides thru the mountains. Ouray, CO is close by too. Its called the Swiss Alps of the Americas. Beautiful place to see. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 3227Yea, the Million Dollar Highway is something else. Drove it about 20 years ago and the old boot still won't forgive me for taking it. I think she had her eyes shut most of the time. Was interesting though.

Thanked: 4827Balboa park is very close to the SAN Diego zoo and has a lot of attractions to offer. Many transient attractions are seen there.

Reds Classic Barber Shop was a cool stop in Indianapolis.
Had some cool hats and some shaving products in the front. Also a classic barbershop in the back. Nice atmosphere.
There are some good restaurants downtown too.
Been a while since San Diego, but there are some great restaurants there.
The zoo of course is a great time.
We used to go down to Tijuana, but maybe not a good idea these days..?
Durango has beautiful territory.
Have fun on your trip!“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

Jerry, are you guys talking about the San Juan SkyWay through the San Juan Mountains from Durango to Silverton? We did that drive in the summer of '11 on a long road trip in the Four Corners area. If it's the same one, it is breath-taking. Somewhere I've got a pic of Coal Bank Pass at over 11,000 feet. I imagine winters up there are only for the hardiest of souls.

That sounds like the right area. I'd have to look it up on a map to be sure.
Winters in the Rocky mountains are only for the people that have enough money they don't need to go anywhere, or folks that have lived there al there lives and love it. I'm in and out of the Rockies all the time in the big truck. It's a beautiful place. It's just Sharpening, right?
