Back in the mountians
About 6 months ago I started driving for a new Fuel hauling company. They knew I have spent years driving the Rocky Mountains hauling fuel so they jumped on having me work for them. They asked me if I would like to drive the mountains again. I told them that if I have a choice, NO! I've done my time, and have earned the ability to NOT have to do it anymore. They agreed and have kept me down in Denver for the last 6 months. NOW, The snow is starting to fly up there and all the guys that were driving the mountains on the warm sunny days are getting scared and whining.
So, The Gasman strikes out for the snow again. Damn! Oh well, I knew it was too good to be true and they know I can do it safely, so here I go again.
I Thought I'd share a few pics of the roads I travel when the snow is just starting to fly, as it looks a lot worse with 12ft snow banks and covered in 6 inches of ice!
A ride with the Gasman... Bet you wish you could do this all winter long, hauling a big bomb. LOL. I must be crazy.
Keep in mind, I now work a night shift. So this will be done in the dark most the time. It's just Sharpening, right?

Yeah, Jerry-I think you would have to be. I'm trying to wrap my head around driving a big rig full of gas like that over icy roads during a Rocky Mountain Winter, AT NIGHT! You are hardcore, no doubt. I can imagine that being both exhausting and terrifying at times.
But truly, someone has to do jobs like that, and it seems like you are exactly the guy they need. Stay safe up there-we need your expertise here on SRP!

Thanked: 634Beautiful country. Please be careful my friend with the snow and black ice. Man I don't miss it now that I have been in Florida for 11 years.

I’m still driving hazmat chemical bombs from Houston to Toronto or Calgary. Mostly good roads, but there are “sporting” moments. Stay safe, Gasman.
BTW, I’m getting a new rig as soon as it’s outfitted.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

Thanks. I didn't like the seat or the dash on the new Macks. Ive read a lot of bad reviews on them too. Hope you did your homework driver. Keep the rubber side down.

Thanked: 4826Nice. Thanks for the pics Jerry. I went for a bit of a drive the other day. Took the new guy for a ride on the west side in the 753 Zodiac Hurricane. We do not get much snow here and I think it makes beautiful pictures, especially the first few dusting.

Company truck. I’ll get another new one in two years or so. Wouldn’t be the first piece of junk I drove. 2013, 2015 International ProStars were junk. Currently driving 2013 Volvo. After a new transmission from Germany last year and EGR Cooler and new DPF filters last month, it’s running pretty good. I hate REGENS.
BTW, our new Mack’s are the new model Anthems, not the Pinnacles.Last edited by Longhaultanker; 10-07-2018 at 11:39 PM.

Dang Jerry! That IS indeed crazy. I've driven Colorado, Utah and Wyoming in the worst weather they get and would give a bunch of extra space to the fuel and chem trucks in any weather! You gotta have some serious cojones!
I got sideways in the large uhaul truck at 55mph on black ice once, some how straightened.
That was enough for me.. Lost some hair off the noggin.“You must unlearn what you have learned.”
