    Signed up for the free 30 day trial of Netflix just to watch "Godless".

    Watching it now. Hokey smokes. Amazing cinematography. Great screenplay. Excellent actors (Sam Waterston as a Marshal? Who would have thought, but he pulls it off!). So far, an amazing Western series. Not for the squeamish. It's not your basic Saturday afternoon Black and White spaghetti western. This series is SERIOUS.

    I’ve read where Gene Roddenberry described Star Trek as “Wagon Train to the Stars” when he was trying to sell the concept.

    That's true. Roddenberry gave a lecture at my college and he said that he pitched the series to NBC executives as "Wagon Train to the Stars". I posted that earlier in the thread.

    That lecture was amazing. He also showed slides of a set that Paramount was building of the bridge of the Enterprise, engineering, shuttle bay, and more. This would be circa January 1978 ish. He could not come out and say, "Paramount is filming a Star Trek Movie", probably because Paramount wanted to keep it hush-hush until they were ready to advertise it, but he did say, and I'll never forget this;

    "I'm showing you pictures of sets of the Star Ship Enterprise that are built on a sound stage at Paramount. I can't tell you anything more. But I can say that studios do NOT build these sets just for the heck of it." Me and the other students realized, "Wow! They are filming a "Star Trek" Movie!"

    Then he showed the "Gag-Reel" of "Star Trek" out-takes. They were hilarious. You can view them now on Youtube, but back then to see them was amazing.

    Home for the afternoon.

    Watching a few more episodes of the made-for-Netflix Western, "Godless". Really enjoying it.

    Binged Godless over the weekend and was very impressed for all the reasons you mentioned previously. Two thumbs up!

    Oh, ZipZop, be sure to watch The Ballad of Buster Scruggs before your trial period of Netflix runs out. I suspect you will thoroughly enjoy 6 western vignettes that comprise the film regardless of your affinity for the Coens offbeat style.

    Hell, I had no idea I used the term "thorough" so blame my overactive subconscious. OBTW, that scene was by far the most hilarious of the entire movie!

    Surly Joe was played rather briefly by Clancy Brown, the evil thug from Shawshank Redemption and Highlander. He plays mean better than most 6'-4" guys.

    I enjoyed this movie as well. When the Coen brothers do a Western, IMO they do it with flair. It's not only a good "Western", but oddly entertaining in a Coen Brothers sort of a way. Like "Fargo" meets the old West.

    As posted above, a very good movie. Kept me very entertained. I laughed at many scenes, and some of the harder core "Western" scenes were IMO very realistic and hard... as life was back then. Definitely a move worth watching if you are a Coen brother fan, a Western fan, or both.

    The casting, script and the cinematography were brilliant. The scenes shot in the great planes states during the Wagon Train Vignette were amazingly beautiful.
