It gives me great pleasure to finally take the wraps off of a project we have been working on for the past year.

Herr Butzer of Idar-Oberstein Germany has formed a cottage industry manufacture to produce high end straight razors in the classic method meaning all by hand. Everything will be done in house from the foundry to the manufacture of the scales. They will be making production pieces and taking orders for custom pieces.

Scale materials will be from exotic woods to bone and legal ivory and precious and semi-precious metal and stones. Steel will range from stainless alloys to carbon steel and Damascus steel.

So now to the exciting part.

Since we are connected to this manufacture Herr Butzer has invited 10 members of the forum to visit the facilities for a one week period. The invitees will be instructed in fabrication and will in fact make a razor for themselves from scratch. Additionally he tells me they will be entitled to a 50% discount on their first purchase from them and all SRP Members will be entitled to a 20% discount off their first order.

All expenses will be paid by Herr Butzer including airfare and meals. Lodging will be at the Opal Hotel and there will be time for sight-seeing and Oberstein is famous for their Mineralogical Museum as this is a very famous mining region of Germany.

So you be excited now? The exact dates haven’t been hammered out yet (pun intended) but it will be during the summer of this year probably in Mid July.

So if you are interested put yer name in the hat and we’ll pick the 10 lucky winners at random. The only requirement besides having a passport of course is you must be a member of SRP for at least one year meaning March 01 of 2018 and of course shave with a straight.



Of course if you pass this up you would be a real April Fool.
