This is exactly what I had in mind Justin, but I was trying to bring it up in a way that showed that we should take responsibility for ourselves and be answerable for our actions without bringing any particular government into the picture, if that makes any sense.
My mother used to say that the U.S. government allowed for freedom, and that you must see that the freedom you have is not freedom from responsibility, as some assume, but freedom to be responsible for oneself and ones actions!!
I love my mother!!

Thanked: 150You should read them. Not an easy read, but very interesting if you want to know the thoughts behind the founding of our federal government as put forth by our founding fathers. You can read them on-line for free.

Well said. I as trying to think of way to express this as one of my fears. I found the perfect way in the form of the story of another person. His name is Junior. Brother to someone I know. you all know him...that fellow that is totally helpless, no concept of what money is, can't tie his own shoes (sorry, that last one may not be true). Anyhow, the cause of Junior's helplessness is that fact that everything has been given to him and he doesn't see any reason to take any responsibility. For him, there is no consequences to anything he does.
I was chatting with an associate of mine one day about how we seem to get a lot of business on first friday. Yeah... and how another time we had a crazy that didn't take his medicine. We kicked him out four times... cops let him go once. I we sat there thinking the same thought, some of the programs that was put into place to help people 40 years ago, are coming back to bite us in the arse
*rant over*

thank you Sir Mark. I agree totally, if we assume that people are stupid, we usually aren't all dissapointed...
but heaven forbid, we expect people to be intelligent and civil...they might have to start being so.
