Default Going the whole nine yards

Anybody else out there feel that if somebody is going to use a straight razor then they should go all the way and also use a pocket watch and fountain pen?

    "Should"?

No, there aren't any shoulds IMHO. To each his own, and all that.

However, since I'm 2/3 of the way there as a straight-shaving fountain pen user, I think whatever floats your boat should be embraced fully.

And I also believe that there is a tendency amongst some to gravitate towards life's more esoteric pleasures. So if you've fallen down the wet shaving rabbit hole, I suspect there's a decent chance that you might well also be interested in rare watches, unusual cameras, fountain pens, really good coffee, cast iron cookware, to name a few things that have their own threads here on SRP.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Yes, but only if one can define the term "The Whole 9 Yards" without using google

True - but which is your definition of choice?

    (I suspect I could guess! )

I hate concrete, especially the large pours.
Pocket watches don’t do it for me as it is common that I layer up and down on my clothes throughout the day, analog wrist watch, why yes, I have several. Fountain pens have never appealed to me because of the whole left handed issue. I do like to be independent though and do most things for myself.

Well I'll give it a shot. The term "Give them the whole 9 yards" originates during WWII. As I understand it, a belt of 100 rounds of .50cal ammo is nine yards long. So when a pilot came on the comm on a B-17 and declared to the gunners, "Give them the whole 9 yards" he meant give them a full 100 rounds.

An old Waistgunner that I spoke with many years ago explained to me that way.

I heard it as a variation of it referring to the P-51 Mustangs but the numbers are a little hinky to make that workout

Not really. I need a razor to shave, might as well use a straight.

But I carry my cellphone with me 24/7 so if I need to know the time and date, they're right there on my screen. I also hardly ever write anymore. When I write anything at work, fountain pen is prohibited because I work in pharma and there are rules about the types of ink we can use. At home I don't write a whole lot. Most of my writing is taking notes during Japanese class, and for that I use ballpoint.

I tend to stay away from things one 'should do' to fit a stereotype.
