I agree it looks like gout. Just remember once you have it attacks can come swiftly. I just got over one about 2 weeks ago and I actually had 3 in quick succession in my right toe, left toe and again in my right toe. I just started allopurinol which I was on years ago.
Gout can also destroy the affected joint with repeated attacks in the same place and make you susceptible to bad arthritis down the road.Last edited by thebigspendur; 12-26-2019 at 06:09 PM.

Pain, needle, aspiration.
I've decided I'm gonna give gout a miss.
You're in good company though Mike.
Henry the Eighth had bad gout, thats why he stopped the sport and hunting and put on the weight.
Actually, if gout is so immobilizing, I imagine weight gain could be a danger maybe.
Course, I managed to gain weight very well without gout. I just moved to Canada. My god you guys can eat in N America.

I had a couple of run-ins with gout (also in the big toe) last year, and it was by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. Much worse than the blown knees or that time my leg met a chainsaw.
In addition to the above, a friend who had suffered from it off and on for years suggested that cherries can help. So I started eating cherries and drinking cherry juice. I can't say for sure it helped, but it did no harm and hey, eating cherries isn't a tough thing to do.
+1 to the Colchicine suggestion. I found it really helped me, but the usual caveats about drug interactions, etc., apply.
My buddy had also figured out through eliminating various things from his diet that processed meat was what really triggered it in him. I have cut way back on that and have not had a recurrence in over a year.
Good luck - it *really* sucks and I hope you're over it soon.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanks gents.
I hear that its bitter Cherry's that are best, but hard on the stomach. Pill form is much easier and can be in higher doses, unless you can drink it all day.Mike

Thanked: 13245Hmmmm
Honestly, I use the whole "Cherry" thing as an excuse to buy extra cherries and cherry juice
Maybe that is why I get so few attacks hehehe I'll go with it
I haven't noted a relation to Diet but then again I haven't ever had a high uric acid test result even during an attack, get tested so you have a better handle as to YOUR triggers.
ps: I have found that a HUGE increase in water intake helps during an attack to clear your system faster, at least for me I grab a gallon jug of water per day"No amount of money spent on a Stone can ever replace the value of the time it takes learning to use it properly"

Hoping the best for ya Mike.
I have had my issues with life and medicals but no gout. I guess I'm just lucky that way. It's been said and I hate doing it myself, but go see the damn Doc! I know it sucks and cost money, but the end results may be worth it. We are getting old. GETTING is the keyword. Just keep that in mind. It's just Sharpening, right?

Gout is a very personal condition. What affects one person may not affect another and some home remedy may work wonders on one and do nothing for another. I've been dealing with it off and on for 20 years. It can also just disappear by itself and return many years later. You can actually sit down and enjoy one big steak dinner and that alone can cause an attack.
The main medicine Colchicine, is actually derived from a Chinese Herb, Autumn Crocus which is a deadly poison. They used to give large doses and it made folks as sick as hell and then they realized a tiny dose did the same thing without side effects. It won't prevent attacks it helps an attack go away. Allopurinol is used to prevent attacks. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero
