    Default North Carolina

    Hi all,

Just have to say that I have just returned from a vacation on the beaches of North Carolina, specifically Ocean Isle beach, and thought it was amazing. The ocean was beautiful, and the people very friendly. Oh, and the golf was excellent. To those of you with children, Ocean Isle beach is a very friendly beach, not too crowded, and utterly relaxing.

however, I did leave my razors in the dry air of colorado, because I did not think that the salty sea air would be very good for them. To those of you who have to deal with the humid air of the south/coast, my condolenses. I think razor maintenance would be a chore, so as to avoid rust.

I leave my razors in a small bathroom used by 4. They all have their own box. After shaving I dry them with a towel and put them on the box. At night or the next morning they go back into the box. No rust issues this way!

I currently am staying at our house on Holden Beach -- one island east of Ocean Isle (these islands face south). We frequently take the boat over behind Ocean Isle, and I buy my gas from the fuel dock there. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay! FWIW, I brought a razor for the first time this weekend and used it yesterday. If your house is air conditioned -- as most are now, but none were when I was growing up -- I don't think the humidity and salt air will be much of a problem.

I live about 30 minutes from the Gulf of Mexico and don't have any real problems with rusting and such ---but right on the beach might be a different issue.

It's very humid here (yesterday 90% rel. hum.) , so anytime I go west (West Texas for ex) , my skin and lips start to crack very quickly. I like the low humidity, overall it makes life a lot more comfortable, but it would take a while for my skin and such to get use to it ---

Yeah -- air conditioning is the key --- drops the indoor humidity to managable levels --

About two years ago, after huricane Rita came through, we didn't have electricity for a while so no air conditioning ---- pure misery ---90-100 deg. F with 80 to 100 % humidity. My hats off to the older generations who had to put up with it all.

wow, holden beach. How nice. You have some great golf all around you, so I hope you play. I did not want to leave. We had a place right on the beach, with a pool. Man that was nice. walk out to the beach, when the kids need a nap, walk back in. too windy at the beach, go to the pool. Could not beat it. I think the Carolina beaches are the way to go for a family vacation.

Yes, great family atmosphere here that has been carefully preserved (for now, at least). It's really growing, however, with much less zoning control on the mainland where development has been very strong. For instance, there is a height restriction on the island, but just across the ICW they are building a 12-story condo building. Did you happen to play River's Edge? That's my favorite course around here. Lockwood Folly is just a few minutes away and very reasonable. (I have my beach address on my driver's license to get local rates. ) Of course, Myrtle Beach is about 35 minutes away with more than 100 courses. ) Glad you enjoyed your stay, and I hope you make it back. Let me know if you are coming this way, and I'll be glad to give you some ideas on where to go, where to eat, where to play, etc. BTW, how did you find out about Ocean Isle?

+1 on the AC. I spend a few weeks a year near the coast in SC (Kiawah Is.) and on the Gulf Coast of FL. I've never had problems with rust, but the AC is almost always on.

We have family in NC and they have a friend that owns a condo on the beach at Ocean Isle. We have taken family vacations to NC every summer for the past three years, and will most definitly be going back. My sister-in-law and family live in Wilmington, so we are out there usually at least once a year. Next year we are planning on Hawaii, so we won't be going to NC, but it is a usual get away destination for us.

There is so much to do out there that we could spend a month and never do everything. We went to Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtal Beach, and followed it up with lunch at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. MAN WAS I OVERSTIMULATED!!! I played Brentwood, but that was the only course because I only played once, and itw as close. Good course though, and reasonable price. I spent most of my time with my daughters and wife, taking in the ocean, waves, beach, and sites. It is going to quite difficult to get back to work tomorrow.
