I used to do my flattop, no comb attachment. Did the top with the clippers and sides/back shaved smooth with my double edge safety razor. Now, clippers all over, no attachment. Easy peazy.

I've been cutting my own hair with a set of electric clippers for a fw years now, with occasional barber trips (once/twice a year).

When doing the back of your head: two side mirrors at the least. Also, go from big attachment settings + higher up to lower settings and less high up (like buffing downwards, if that makes any sense). Same on the sides. Easy-peasy.

I wear a flat top and I've been cutting my own for about 30 years. It seemed like I always had to fix it when I came home from the barber (The good barber that cut it when I was a kid died and after that I just couldn't seem to find another good one) so I decided if I'm going to fix it I might as well just cut it myself. I use a number one up the back and sides to about an inch above the ears then use the angle attachment to get the bevel on the sides then no attachment and freehand the top. I try to start a little bit long so if I gouge any spots I can even it out. Then I use a beard trimmer with the number one attachment to get even tighter on the sides and without an attachment to do the trim up. I can even do the back and shave it with the DE but it takes three mirrors. I prefer to have a straight razor shave on my neck though so I have my wife do it. I'm just not quite comfortable doing that in a mirror by myself. It sounds a lot harder than it is. Especially the flat on the top but it just takes a little bravery. It's only hair, it will grow back.

Edit: Oh yeah, Wahl corded clipper for me also until I get to the beard trimmer which is of course rechargeable.

To all of you who have enough hair on your head to worry about how to cut your own, savour this time.

I had big hair when I was younger and not so much now. Guess I used up most of my follicle mojo when I was young.

    Now I wear a hat.

So true. I started losing my hair very soon after high school graduation, and a few years ago my barber lost my business to an Oster clipper.

If only my hat size wasn’t 7-7/8...

But that slick head creates less rag and wind resistance, hence making you the "Speedster"!

My old time barber of nearly 30 year retired, and I've been going to a "hair stylist." She gives me the same haircut, only uses scissors rather than a clipper with a comb. I just cancelled my next appointment. I can probably manage another month or two of being shaggy, but then? Perhaps she'll know of a young stylist who has had the virus and is now not at risk of spreading who can make a home visit. Maybe she could bring a dozen eggs and a half-gallon of milk at the same time.
