    Default always get insurance

so last friday I send a razor off to Lynn to be honed, a 6/8th dovo best quality. I put it in the box, fill out the address, put the invoice for honing in, seal it and pay the shipping priority. I told them it was fragile and to take care of it, and left it in their hands. ClassicShaving calls me today because Lynn received an empty box, no razor. The box he got had been taped on both sides and was open, with no razor inside. This was my first razor, I paid $90 new about 8 years ago and was hoping to get the edge on it that Lynn is known for. So, the moral of the story is always get insurance and ship u.p.s. if possible.

FedEx lost an entire package I sent to Lynn...I didn't bother with a signature (doh!). It never made it to his house.

Lynn, being the gentleman that he is, offered to send me a razor to use until FedEx found mine. A class act!

While I got reimbursed by "FuddEx" (be vewy, vewy quiet...we're losing your packages...he-he-he-he...), their investigation was hardly thorough and the agent told me that she couldn't even get a response from the station which had dispatched the package. Neither razor was a museum piece (A new Dovo with ebony handles and a 20+ y.o. Hoffritz)...but it is the principle.

    1. Get a signature.

    2. Get insurance.

    3. Consider UPS or the good old USPS (they have internet tracking now!)

I did ship this one USPS, which is why I thought it was weird. They never have lost a package of mine before, and when I order through classic shaving they deliver promptly without incident.

Given that the regular postal service has been very reliable until now, and that courier service and insurance are not cheap at all, it is cheaper to lose the occasional package then it is to always insure.

Of course, I'd insure expensive razors, but for less than 50 euros it is not worth it.

But losing a 90$ razor is shitty, I agree.
