Fortunately America didn't exist at the time or I'm pretty sure some president or other would have said it's nothing, it's democratic propaganda and that it will just go away in the spring.

Firstly, the world economy won't shatter because most of the world is getting a handle on this thing and managing to re open safely.
The reason that the US has more cases and more deaths of anywhere in the entire world is because it wasn't taken seriously early on when a real difference could have been made.
Secondly, what restrictions do you have? As far as I can see, the people in the US are just about fully open and can do anything they like.
As far as a few people getting sick, My math and yours must be different. Maybe calculators work differently in your neck of the woods.
