    Default New Manowar CD

Yesterday I finally bought the latest Manowar CD. I am a longtime fan and have every non-live album they ever made (I don't care about concert compilations).

They anounced that they would start a major project, singing about all parts of Norse Mythology. This first album is called 'gods of war' and is about Odin, the AllFather.

The first time I listened it I was underwhelmed, thinking 'I just spent 17 euros on THIS?!'
But there were a couple of catchy tracks so I started it again an hour or 2 later.
Afterwards I thought 'Hm actually it is not that bad'
Now I have put it on again, thinking 'Hey this is really good'.

The style is fundamentally different from their previous songs where each song was independent of the other ones, yet all being prime examples of power metal with excellent guitar play and brilliant singing.
This newest record has a lot of variation in the songs, and the tracks have an order to them.

That is probably why it takes some getting used to.
    Any other Manowar fans here?
I am into any heavy metal as long as it has melody to it, and the lyrics are understandable. I also like Rock opera type stuff (ayreon) and gothic (theatre of tragedy, tristania)

Btw a nice bit of trivia: All manowar albums are mixed and mastered by Galaxy studios in Belgium, just 20 minutes from where I live. The studio itself is not much to look at from the outside, and it is located in the middle of nowhere. Still, a lot of big metal bands go halfway around the world to let Galaxy work on their stuff, so they are probably pretty good.

I've listened to a lot of Manowar songs and listen to them before I swim to pump me up. Eric Adams has an awesome voice. Kind of makes sense that they'd start doing an album on Norse mythology considering most of their material has a Gothic, Medieval Ages feel to it. Do you listen to Nightwish at all?

Nightwish is another favorite of mine and I have several of their albums.
Evanescence has a similar style, as does Within temptation.

Manowar is indeed very suitable for sports activities. Several of their paced paced numbers are ideal for psyching you up and getting the adrenaline going.
I used to listen to it while running inthe forest and while working out on the punching bag in the attic. The music fires you up to keep going despite the fatigue.

Eric's voice is awesome indeed. Last time I was at a Manowar concert, at a certain point they switched guitars and brought several numbers purely acoustic, with his voice ringing clear like a bell...

I have to admit I wore earplugs. Even with those things in, the music was LOUD. And the drum beats reverberated in my chest

I've heard some of their stuff and it's pretty good. They're no Slayer, but hey-someone has to open up for the headliner.

Slayer is not bad, but there is not enough melody in their music for me.
Though I like 'Seasons in the abyss' and 'dead skin mask'.

I'm more into the progressive side of metal, stuff like Meshuggah, Tool,...
Manowar is great party music though

I love Tool as well. If you want to listen to something heavy, dramatic and melodious though give Blind Guardian a shot. I kind of like their latest album and I think you might as well
