Now I'm confused. The evidence shows that FDR had intelligence that an attack was eminent. I never said anything about the invasion being a fake.

Well, that's the problem, A kernel of truth becomes "used" and the next thing you know, well.....you have something else.

Yes the Govt had "Intelligence" because they had broken the Japanese Codes however what they knew was they were planning something big but where, when, how was a total unknown. So you can say they should have known but it's the old next day quarterback thing. Additionally the Japanese did what they could to fool and mislead so the target would remain unknown.

In those days there were no satellites to keep track of things and it's a big ocean. A fleet could easily get lost and in fact the only reason we didn't lose our fleet was serendipity that a few aircraft located their fleet first and circumstance allowed us to destroy them.

A war is really one big "cluster F..." and luck and chance are everything. The USS Indianapolis was sunk by a Japanese Sub. It was on the way back after carrying a major part of the Atomic Bomb. What if it had been sunk on the way there? There was only one part.

As far as truth goes it is not a relative thing it is absolute. The earth is almost round and it revolves around the sun. Some don't believe that and would claim it's their truth but it isn't. Just because you think it is doesn't make it true.

Sure, in this day and age it can be hard to determine the truth because so much bull is being put out there. But like the X Files, "The truth is out there". The question is are you willing to work to find it or is it just too easy to listen to your favorite mud slinger be it left or right and just take it all hook line and sinker.

So, wait the X files are real and the moon landing is a fake?

Jerry's right. This is off topic and becoming counter to his topic. As much as I love an endless exchange where no one will budge (which is really any exchange on the internet) I'm going to respect the OP's wishes.

I hate to say this but an opening like that begs just what Jerry didn't want and yet everyone has been civil and we might have been dancing pretty far around politics but it's hasn't really been brought up.

I think it has not gone off topic because there really is no topic.

What we have been talking about is "The Truth". If we can't all agree on what defines the truth well.....

In this day and age I don't think we can. Thank you internet. Of course Pontius Pilot famously asked the question all those years ago so it is apparently not a new phenomenon

I hope it is not considered politics if I wish all my US brothers and sisters good luck today and that I and many others across the world will be watching and wishing you well from afar.

May the democratic process be respected and accepted even if you don't like the outcome,
