    Default Who would have thought

The boss gave me a puzzled look and told me that the refrigerator warning light was on for the air filter to be replaced. I was equally puzzled as I have never heard of a refrigerator needing an air filter much less needing it replaced. Scanned the owners manual PDF and sure enough it had an air filter that needs replacing every six months. Interesting as we bought the new fridge 2 years ago and this is the first time the light has come on. Removed the cover to get at the replaceable filter and low and behold there wasn't one installed at the factory.

So we reset the warning light and replaced the filter cover as a filter obviously was not necessary to the operation of the fridge. The main purpose of the charcoal filter was odour control and some baking soda, if needed, would do that just fine at considerably less cost than 2 new filters a year costing about $30.00 a pop. Talk about a nice little money maker for the manufacturer! What a modern marvel.

What did you expect....we live in a disposable world, for most parts. Nothing is built to last or be repaired, just throw it away and get another, or get the new, next greatest. Funny how a new cell phone comes out, only to become obsolete in 90-120 days, then they purposely slow down your phone, because they can't keep running your program, because of the new phone they came out with runs on a different program.

You wouldn't have to clean the refrigerator is something smelled?

One time we had to throw a refrigerator out when somehow the plastic in the bottom got cracked and meat juice leaked into the insulation.

There were 5 of us kids and parents in the home and no one would admit cracking it..............

The filter does serve a purpose unless you like a stinking interior which then permeates the contents inside.

You can buy off brand replacements on Amazon for a fraction of the cost of OEMs and they also sell a small battery powered rechargeable unit that produces a small amount of ozone and it does the same thing and long term is much cheaper.

The French are in the process of passing a law which will require manufacturers to indicate whether their products will be repairable.
