computer crash
Well, it wasnt my computer, but it was my external harddrive that i back everything up on. With the computer still working it wasnt much of an issue as all my files and pics wefe still on the computer. The problem is...the external harddrive was 7or 8Tb so it was huge compared to my computer. So i kept my largest file of all directly on it. My Music! I did have a select amount of it copied to my phone but not all.
I remembered that my buddy across town who has a recording studio took a copy of my music but that was over 10 years ago. With a phone call i found out he still had most of it but it had been mixed in with a lot of other music so he spent some time pulling most of it out of his collection along with a lot of his customers files.
In the end I have retrieved 70% of it and now i have replaced the hardrive. But, i also have backed up my music files on a TB flash drive AND on the computer. 3 copys! I had to learn the hardway but at least I managed to get most of it back.
Plus I have learned about Flac files now as my buddy had a lot of those. The difference in sound quality is nice. Leave it to a guy with a recording studio to know music. BTW, Im giving him a new copy of my music. So a 4th copy will be saved in his mega computer system.
The the moral to the story is, even when you think your safe, the computer grimlins can find a way to mess with you. Damn computers. It's just Sharpening, right?

There are services that can recover a crashed hard drive. They aren’t cheap, but they are often able to get back almost everything that was on the drive.David

My buddy does the "pull things off crashed hardrives" and he said it was a goner! He is a good guy to know as he used to be the head programmer at HP. Years ago. Retired from them and does repairs to anything to do with computers. It seems that most the time i has to do with a electronic componant going bad that controls or reads the harddrive. But he said mine was beyond fixing or recovering what was on it. Figures! Ive spent a few days going through all the discs I have and rebuilding but a lot of files are just lost to me. Now if I wasnt a good guy I could just download stuff from the web. Its illegal and its also a little over my head so I end up with viruses or something.

That amount of info put on the cloud would cost money. They only give you a little for free. Plus, ive ne er liked the idea of the cloud. I dont know where my info would be or how safe it is from others. Like who owns the cloud anyway. The goverment? Plus id rather have it saved at my home instead.

Morale of the story: music CD's weren't such a bad thing after all.

Heres a number that will make more since to you Leonard. 25,354 songs. Sure glad the computer knows how to figure this stuff out.

Wow. I think my music collection stands at around 4gbs. Since I’m an Amazon Prime member, I get their basic music service included in my membership. Paired with Verizon’s unlimited plan, I just stream music. I did opt for the 512gb iPhone when we switched from Android.
