    Default 2021 fishing season

Yesterday 3/10/21, was my first trip out on the lake, though there were still a few small pockets of ice about the lake. Not a good day to fall in, for sure.!

But I've been fishing this lake since I was in cloth diapers, and know its secrets, intimately.

Most folks would think the fish would be in deep water at this time of the season, but fish are cold blooded, and are a product of their surrounding. They must eat to survive,
so they must follow the food.

This lake is full of golden shiners ( like the ones in Florida)
and they are the first into the shallow, swampy bays.

    Swimbaits mimic these shiners perfectly.

Working them slowly through Lilly pad roots, and last years vegetation, will put you in gods grace.

Fish pics coming...gotta go to work.

    I'm back...

So I ended up landing 12, ranging from 1 lb. to 5 1/2 lbs.

Average was almost 4 lbs. Here's pics of the best ones.

That's the difference between an angler, and a fisherman.

They have been catching 14 pound plus largemouths here in TX on what seems a regular basis.
I have been doing the payment plan all during covid on a little bass boat. If things are steady I will be able to get it out of hock pretty soon. It's been sitting since about '90 in a nice garage with a cover on it.
Need to holler at outback at that time and see what he recommends. Tanks and carbs were drained. That's good!
Looking forward to being on the water. Something I enjoyed before.

Too far from the lakes to go often.

I am going to do something that I have never done this year: saltwater surf fishing

I did my tour in the Navy and my wife and I have vacationed on the Gulf of Mexico for about 16 years, 2 x a year and I have never brought any tackle with me. This year is going to be different! I am actually excited and truly looking forward to it.

A bucket O gills, and redears/shell crackers, for y'all southern folk. They fell to my 5 wt. fly rod, and my hand tied, olive, hares ear nymph.
