Thanked: 556Just a note - all or mostly all of the taxis in Vancouver are Prius. I think that speaks well of their dependability and their cost of use per km.
I am seeing A LOT of Tesla and Chevy Volt cars around the Greater Toronto Area and just spotted one of the new BMW electrics. There are a lot of charging stations in the Toronto region, so that’s not an issue. I should note that I spotted a Tesla dead on the side of the road on secondary hiway outside of Ottawa.
Tje other issues associated with hybrids and full electric vehicles is access to service. You can’t pull into your local auto shop for a quick fix or diagnostic.David

Thanked: 3223I just had to look at gas prices then and now. In 1969 when I stated driving an Imperial gallon of gas cost $0.43 Canadian and today in my town the same Imperial gallon would cost $6.62 Canadian.

I’ve owned 2 Chevy Volts, a 2014 and a 2017. Both have been dependable. The user interface is much better with the 2017, though they blew it with the cruise control buttons, the prior model to the current was far more usable.
My commute was covered completely by electricity. I charged at home, drove 35-40 miles depending on my day, then charged at work and drove home. Real world driving completely electric, about 80% stop and go driving I would average 38 and 44 respectively. My life time mpg for the 2014 was 112 mpg over 70,000 miles of driving. The newer one I would have to look but is probably similar to a little better. The only reason we bought the newer one was for a commute sticker otherwise we would have stayed until the 2014.
Hybrid vehicles are highly dependable for my uses but I don’t drive more than 50 miles a day and 80% of our commutes are in stop and go traffic. They’re quiet and have gobs of torque.

I have been thinking about replacing my 2009 RAV4 with the RAV4 Prime which is a plug in hybrid. Not sure it will happen any time soon since they make so few of them but maybe one day.

My wife keeps hinting about an electric vehicle. Then I ask her if she really knows what I do for a living.
BTW, I bet they wouldnt let me plug it in at work.Last edited by Gasman; 08-04-2021 at 01:56 AM.

Your scarring me. But i di know they are being tested. Dont get me wrong. I know this is the way it will go. But i figure i will be out of the industry before then. Hell, i own a battery powered lawn mower.

before they go all electric they'll have to figure out how to make all that "green" energy!
