Thanked: 48There's so little real studies going on that is released publicly anyway. They released a study on veterans and breakthrough infections . Really? That means 90% are.men and average age for veteran is 58 which is 20 years older than average citizen. They have all the stats but don't want to release them. Why? I'm not anti vax but the truth please. I rather someone say they don't know then dance around throwing you know what on the wall until something sticks.

a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.
"every year the flu vaccine is modified to deal with new strains of the virus"
Or if you like it better "A vaccine is a biological preparation that provides active acquired immunity to a particular infectious disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism and is often made from weakened or killed forms of the microbe, its toxins, or one of its surface proteins.
When the target bug changes the protection can waver. Luckily, Omicron does not have a lethality like Delta. If it did people would be dropping like flies.
If a vaccine keeps you out of the hospital or suffering permanent issues it has done it's job. Some are more effective than others. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 3222To show you how quickly and easily this Omicron version can spread, I'll tell you what is happening at the MiL's long term care home. For a while now all staff and visitors had to wear masks and be fully vaccinated with visitors showing proof on entry. A couple of weeks ago they restricted visitors to the 2 designated essential care givers and only one at a time. In my MiL's case that is my wife and my Nephew. In addition the essential care givers had to now show proof of a negative Covid rapid test taken on the day of the visit. Even with all these precautions in place, we just got a call that there is a Covid outbreak on my MiL's ward. We made the tough decision not to visit till the outbreak is declared over.

My Father in Law is 102 as well, you couldn't meet a more cantankerous old man, swmbo usually ends up in tears if she visits her dad and she hasn't been able to speak with him since before Christmas because he won't answer his phone.
I tell her that he's well taken care of in the home so she should stop letting him ruin her life and just leave him to get on with it. That goes down like a lead balloon I can tell you, when will I learn to keep my gob shut.- - Steve

63yo here. We got our boosters I think in October. We didn't get flu shots cause everybody was masked up and we were't that worried about flu. Now we are thinking about flu shots and maybe shingles shots.
All strains seem to be weakening. Natural selection at work. If it kills you it can't spread so microstrains that are fairly weak or even asymptomatic are prevailing. Soon I think it will be about like a bad cold for most peeps. We don't mask anywhere these days but we are careful around anybody coughing or sneezing.
Our shots and boosters barely affected us. Just sore arms for a day or two. We absolutely do not regret getting shot, not one bit. SIL came down with it but they shot her up with that recombinant stuff and she was right as rain in 48 hours.
We went with Moderna. Seems the most popular, here and gets good reviews, FWIW.
Hot chocolate tonight with a shot of Evan and a dash of peppermint schnapps. Feels like good medicine. Almost as good as the hot toddies last night.
