Default Winter knocking at the door

The Trans Canada Highway is closed to traffic in both directions from the Manitoba border to just west of Thunder Bay effectively cutting Canada in half as far as road traffic is concerned. That's roughly 300 mi/480 km. We are not getting the snow so far just very heavy rains but that could change.

I remember going from Thunder Bay to Kenora and changing time zones on the way. I had no idea we did that in Ontario but I do remeber thinking how miserable it looked like it could be in the winter.

I still can't believe that when I lived in Elliot Lake, the directions to get to BC were - turn right at the Highway and keep going on that road for a week. Or 3 days to Thunder Bay.

Not unusual as most people in Southern Ontario have no clue about this end of the province.
