We always hung stuff out in the summer, I recall how jeans could stand up on their own so stiff off the line.
These days not so much as the yard isn’t equipped with a clothes line.
I do still toss out our area rugs about this time of year if we get down to -20s for a few days.
Lay them out on a snow bank upside down in those temps and in the morning give them a few whacks with the beater,,,, clean and bright till the spring and smell so fresh again.
My mom got me into that habit as a kid, but the results kept me doin it the next 40 years..
Using the attributes of each season is a tradition that is based on results..

We be really beating a dead horse here.

In most parts of the civilized world automatic washers and dryers are just ubiquitous devices. Even in the poorest places it's one of the first things people get after a TV and Radio. Maybe a luxury or status symbol, I don't know.

Even in my backwards part of the world you would be hard pressed to see clothes hanging out to dry.
