I picked up one of these about 3 months ago.
    http://www.superiorluggage.com/364.html?Brief-Bag
except this is cloth inside and mine is suede.

    At a rummage sale.

    For $2

    Very nicely made.

Handles are padded, all loops have metal inside to reinforce, thick leather, slots for cards - pens - 3 half height dividers inside, combination is easily changed.

The "lips" have a hinged metal frame inside allowing it to be locked open to it's full width.
When closed one lip overlaps the other so that there is zero chance of things falling out or hands getting in.

It even has little brass feet !!

Nice to be able to grab all your stuff at once and be able to stay organized.

What does GW keep in his man-bag?

    2 extra mags
9 oz pepper spray (fire extinguisher type)
    2 oz pepper spray
police style box aluminum clip board for writing reports/IR
binder with lease agreements from all properties worked, trespasses, parking violations, tow stickers, ect.
    hand sanitizer
small first aid kit including most OTC meds, sutures, morphine syretts, other basics
    3 extra sets of cuffs
    extra light bulbs
    extra batteries
    extra pens
    sharpie marker
mine and the companies business cards
    small change purse
small tool kit ( screwdriver with 10 tips, fake leatherman, 3 inch vise grips, super glue, E tape, epoxy )
    Ka Bar Marine knife
    small bottle of Clubman
    bag of Lancaster chewing tobacco
    can of Skoal peach packets
    corn cob pipe
    black cavendish pipe tobacco
pack of Carter Hall pipe tobacco and papers
(smoothest damn cigarette you ever had)
honey flavored snuff (when you can't smoke, enjoy pure snorting satisfaction)
zip ties in various lengths 3" to 18"
gee, let me go look to see what else......

Nice looking stuff there, guys. Thanks! I am looking for something small and light. I'm starting a new job next month and I'll be working from home most days. I will have meetings from time to time though and want a good quality soft bag to carry a few small files. Think of something you'd have to carry for 15 or 20 blocks walking through Manhattan. And I certainly won't be carrying the hardware JL and GW do

I'll probably let the wife take me shopping this weekend.

I carry a few things, but nothing funky in my briefcase, just the normal stuff. I really would check out Jack Georges though, I just love their stuff.

I don't view it as " hardware" just stuff I use at work.

I will say however that mine is not a small bag by any measure, so it's not what you are after.

I'm not sure what sort of LEO work JL does but if he is/was in a patrol car then he most likely keeps most of that sort of stuff in his trunk.

I like to keep mine portable in case I have to ride with someone.

I do some work in the private sector part time, I have a pelican case I use for everything other than a vest. Most of the time when I leave the house I have on what I need....the nice leather bags are far to nice to use for that kind of stuff, at least mine are because I paid retail for them.

    Like I said......... $2.

but that did make me think about other stupid stuff that I and other people have had stolen on posts..... hmm...... maybe I should be more careful.

Actually, I rarely get too far from my car unless it's my $200 car.

YO Homey, is that my briefcase
    ?

Well, we took a ride up to Woodbury Commons this weekend. I liked the Hartman's, but they didn't have a color I liked. I ended up with a nice light simple bag by Longchamps. I'm pleased with the purchase. Thanks again for all the input here.
